Now you might ask why would you ever need to walk backwards on snowshoes but there would be times again when you are in a trail, or you get in a situation where you can not walk forward. It is a little bit tricker and again you can practice in a park or a school yard but you want to pick up your feet, using your poles to balance. I have Fred and Oscar here helping me walk backwards. You do have to pick up your legs which gives you a very good workout because your shoe will flap down. Your snowshoe would flat down unlike a regular shoe and again depending on how much powder snow there is you would have to make some adjustments. So between walking backwards and walking forward those are 2 very important skills to have before going out to a more isolated area. A wilderness area.
