Looks Fit, hope he is not cooked before the Tour. I'm sure he will get enough rest in June to build for the Tour.

Your momentum looked great, since you are learning to go with the stride and the revolutions of the sprocked climb, to satisfy your rotations!

If only the guy on the motorcycle would stop shouting...I wonder how Lance can put up with that.

by ernie1982 on January 20, 2009 at 6:28 PM

Dear Der Jan , that guy on the scooter is mister Chris Carmichael himself, long time Armstrong's close friend and arguably the greatest cycling coach in the world.
I suggest you to get informed before writing something silly next time.

Dear Ernie,

If it was Barack Obama himself...on a 17% slope I wouldn't want anyone around shouting at me that "it is not much further". Maybe that's just my personal preference, I don't know.
FYI: I think Chris Carmichael is an excellent trainer.

lance noticably rides much more crouched out of the saddle, and much lower rpm. He used to ride with more upright torso perhaps getting better hip extension and position over the pedals, and much higher rpm???
Curious...
Good Luck Lance! Hope you win in 2009, any race, any team mates...

The reason lance is riding more crouched over the handlebars when he is standing on this climb is, I believe, because of the gradient he is riding...as riding more upright might not allow the front tire to stay glued to the tarmac...If you've ever ridden a steep climb this sometimes becomes an issue.

thanks JF7, certainly traction and wheelies are a consideration when out of the saddle, but whether he is in the saddle or not, 28 cog or not, his rpms are noticably lower, and his style is less "neutral spine" than in the past. He is still the best, and will win some if not all the races entered that demand climbing and TT skills. It is possible to ride "taller" and maintain front wheel stabilty...try it sometime, you may climb faster...keep your shoulders vertical above your hands/lever/bar position while careful not to hit your knees/thighs on the tops of your bars. you will benefit with greater hip mobility.
Peace Out Brothers and Sisters,
David Jordan

Another reason Lance is riding a slower rpm is that he often used the early season to work on his leg muscle development -- harder gear = more power -- and then ride higher rpms later in the season??

Most of us would struggle to go at that pace up a 7% incline, never mind a 17% incline. Don't forget that the maximum incline you would have seen on the TdF is around 10%, this is why you are seeing such a different climbing style as it so much steeper.

recently somehow I caught an online glimpse of LA's training logg whilst on Hawaii. Can anyone direct me in the right direction again where I can find this logg online???

that climb is hard to drive. I drive it a lot, our radio station's antenna is at the top.

I didn't think Lance was that serious, I do now.
I'm starting to believe he may win another TDF title.
Even if he doesn't win, I'll admire his effort.
