Hi! I'm Dr. Eric Sayer from Sayer Family Chiropractic. I'm here on behalf of Expert Village. In this segment, we're going to be talking about just what happens if the pain persists, or if the problem doesn't go away. A strained back normally should take about 6-8 weeks to heal. During that time, a person may not be in pain. They may only be in pain for the first 2-3 weeks. It just takes that long for that muscle to heal. If the pain continues on past a few weeks, some things I would suggest would of course be seek attention from a couple different sources. I would certainly see a chiropractor. There are many great things that can be done with chiropractic manipulative therapy. Things of that sort that will make a difference to let those muscles and tendons heal. The other sources that you may try will be massage therapist, a lot of times will help with strained backs. There's even orthopedist and physical therapist that would do some wonderful things in order to help with a back that's lingering with pain. One thing you do not want to do with it is live with it and have it turn into a chronic problem or be a recurring problem that doesn't allow you to live a normal life. The longer you wait, the more likely that will be.
