It’s nice to enjoy a bowl of popcorn, but disheartening when a glob of butter lands on your clothes. The greasy nature of popcorn butter makes stain removal seem nearly impossible, but don’t pitch the garment in the trash or head to the dry cleaner just yet. With a bit of patience and the right products, you can remove popcorn butter from clothing in no time.

Cover the butter spot with heavy duty liquid laundry detergent. Rub the detergent into the stain with your fingers.
Wash the clothing in the hottest water recommended for the fabric. Check the garment after washing and before drying.
If any of the stain remains, treat the spot with a paste made of two parts washing soda and one part water. Rub the paste into the butter-stained portion of the clothing. Rinse the area well with water, then launder again using the hottest water recommended for the fabric. Check the stain.
Apply household lubricating spray, such as WD-40, to any remaining stain. Apply a couple of drops of liquid dish soap onto the area and rub it in well with your fingers. Wash the garment again in the hottest water safe for the fabric and check the stain.
