Charmed and Beverly Hills 90210 star Shannen Doherty shaved her head in her battle with breast cancer and posted images of her haircut to Instagram.

Doherty, who went public with the news of her illness in August 2015, alerted fans that there would be news when she first posted a photograph along with the message, "Cupcake pan, chocolates and a razor.... Stay tuned. @annemkortright has got this. #cancersucks #thankgodforfriends."

She then posted a series of six images showing the progression of her haircut.

Doherty's illness first came to light when celebrity news site TMZ.com posted details of her lawsuit against her former business manager. In the legal filing, Doherty claimed the firm Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson was responsible for her illness because it allowed her health insurance to lapse, and the actress had to wait until 2015 to re-enroll.

In the interim, TMZ reported, Doherty did not go for her usual checkups, and the "invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node" was later found. The firm denied responsibility and vowed to fight the suit's claims, according to People.com.

Celebs Who Have Recently Battled Cancer

Doherty joins a heroic club of celebrities who have fought cancer.

Most recently, the world lost music legend David Bowie, who died in January 2016 after an 18-month battle with liver cancer. Bowie gifted his fans with one final album, "Blackstar," which was released January 8, 2016, two days before his death on the star's 69th birthday and promptly shot to the top of album charts.

Former supermodel Janice Dickinson revealed in March 2016 that she is battling breast cancer. Dickinson told Daily Mail Online that her doctor found a pea-sized lump in her right breast during a routine exam.

In February 2016, "Mob Wives" reality star Angela "Big Ang" Raiola died from stage 4 brain and lung cancer. Raiola said she "quit smoking the day I found out" about a tumor in her throat, People.com reported.

Angelina Jolie Pitt, Jane Fonda, Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro, Christina Applegate and Rita Wilson are a few of the other famous Hollywood names who've battled cancer over the years.
