While Rihanna may be a self-proclaimed bad girl, when it comes to her food, the young singer is anything but. Thanks to a recent interview in Bon Appetit with Rihanna’s personal chef, Debbie Solomon, we finally have some insight into the singer's eating habits — from how she stays healthy to what she indulges in.

It turns out that, perhaps unsurprisingly, Rihanna’s favorite foods are largely influenced by the flavors she grew up with: Jamaican, Bajan and Guyanese. So think stuff that’s heavy on the heat like island curries and spiced meats, fish and vegetables. Yum!
While you may think the hardest part about that would be making authentic curries with ingredients while traveling, apparently the biggest challenge on a day-to-day basis when it comes to being Rihanna’s personal chef is that the singer’s a “moody eater.” In other words, she decides what she’s in the mood for with very little notice. Is it just us, or does that sound kind of familiar?
“[With previous clients] I would send in a menu on a Sunday or Monday and they would pick for the week. Then I’d be able to shop and prep. But this is nothing like that. We don’t know what we’re gonna want to eat tomorrow, so why even pick today?”
Solomon stays ahead of the game by ordering every protein that Rihanna eats as well as vegetables, rice and pasta. She also travels with all of her favorite spices, including bouillon-like maggi cubes, curry, cumin seeds, Old Bay seasoning, adobo, five-spice and garlic and onion granules. Because Rihanna has never had a personal chef before, Solomon even enlisted Rihanna’s mother as her secret weapon when perfecting her the singer’s favorite dishes.

Solomon, who didn’t start out as a chef to big celebrities, had no idea she was cooking for the pop star when a call came in requesting food to prepared for a drop-off at Sony Studios. She dazzled the unknown client with her curried chicken and rice, peas and plantains on the first day. Then she was solicited two more times, and when her lamb shank and pasta carbonara were also big hits, she sealed her future as Rihanna’s personal chef.
With two world tours and a daily offering of breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night snacks for one of the biggest stars in the world under her belt, Solomon has officially solidified herself as a culinary badass. And just like her client, she definitely isn’t afraid to speak her mind.
“There shouldn’t be shame in eating food,” she said. “I won’t waste my calories on bullsht. If I take a bite of something and it’s shtty to me, I'm not just going to eat it because I’m hungry. I’m going to stop eating that sh*tty thing.”
Yeah, we feel you.
