Dark chocolate is full of heart-healthy flavanols, which lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to the heart. To get maximum health benefits, you’ll want to choose minimally processed chocolate with a cacao content of at least 70 percent.

Both cinnamon and turmeric contain anti-inflammatory benefits that help decrease the risk of heart disease and brain function decline. And finally, goji berries not only boost eye health, but also contain polyphenols that protect against the development of cancer.

Never tried goji berries before? They’re delicately sweet and tart — like a cross between a berry and a cherry tomato. You can find them at most health food stores and farmers markets.

To avoid scorching the chocolate, you’ll want to gently melt it in a double broiler. But if you don't have one, you can simply use a heatproof bowl placed over simmering water.

And once you’ve finished spreading the melted chocolate onto a baking sheet, you’ll want to work fast. Sprinkle the goji berries over the chocolate as quickly as possible to ensure the berries adhere to it.

This treat stores well in the refrigerator or at room temperature. You can even box it up as an elegant, homemade gift for someone special.
