Carbs? Yes Please.

For many years Kardashian was a devotee of the Atkins diet, but once she started pumping iron with bodybuilder Melissa Alcantara in 2017, her outlook on diet changed dramatically.

“I was eating absolutely no carbs — or trying to — and that’s really hard for me,” Kardashian said on “The View”.

After adding carbs, “in just a few weeks, I see my body tightening up. I’ve shrunk and come into place."

One thing you won’t find her eating most days? Desserts. “I don’t really eat sugar the way that I used to. It doesn’t really do it for me,” she told People in 2018.

“I’ve kind of been trained to just eat a lot healthier than I used to.

I used to just eat anything and everything and I loved it. So I really do control that now. I don’t want to ruin it by just stuffing my face.”

Instead, Kardashian is eating a lot more whole grains, lean protein and fresh organic produce. “Kim told me the other day, ‘This is the most vegetables I’ve ever eaten!’” Alcantara told the magazine. Additionally, processed foods, including crackers and cookies are a no-go.

“I want her to eat real food that’s cooked every day. Most likely if it comes out of a box, it’s not going to be good for you. She’s eating well and she feels good.”

Kim's Grocery List

First off, if you want to eat like Kardashian, plan on stocking your grocery cart with lots of clean foods — think nutrient dense foods in their natural state rather than those highly processed with added chemicals and preservatives. In 2018 the star posted a comprehensive grocery list on her app, titled “Shop My Get-Fit Grocery List,” and it looked incredibly healthy.

When Kardashian was on Atkins, one of her favorite breakfast orders included scrambled eggs with tomatoes, mushrooms and onions.

Kim Kardashian's Lunch

Alcantara explains that the reality star's mid-day meal is a balance of protein and carbs. Chicken, sweet potatoes and veggies would be an average meal.

Kardashian also revealed on Instagram that she is also eating a lot of salads recently. One of the reality star’s go-to lunches is a Chinese chicken salad from Health Nut in Calabasas, California.

Kim Kardashian's Dinner

According to Alcantara, her last meal of the day is pretty simple: omega-3 fatty acid-packed fish and a vegetable. It’s safe to assume that she swaps out the fish with other lean proteins, such as chicken, when she desires.

An Occasional Cheat Meal

Kardashian doesn’t eat healthy all of the time.

"Every once in a while, I like to treat myself and have a cheat meal," she confessed on her now-defunct app. Why? She explained that it can be “so hard” as well as “boring” to eat clean all of the time. "A cheat meal allows me to enjoy food without feeling like I'm overindulging," she said.

According to Kardashian, her trainer suggests scheduling a cheat meal once every 10 days instead of once a week. “This way you won't lose any of the progress you've made at the gym...

When you do them too often, your body's hormones are thrown off," she wrote. "Your testosterone, which is a muscle-making and fat-loss hormone, can change if you're eating too many calories, which can make you gain weight."

Kardashian continued: "You can still enjoy your favorite food, as long as you get back on track the next day. Cheat meals work best when you avoid alcohol, since they're empty calories filled with sugar.

This part is easy for me since I don't really drink — which means I can just have an extra doughnut or two. Kidding! I do have a sweet tooth, though, so normally my cheat meals are desserts or other sweets."

One of her favorite ways to indulge? “I love Häagen-Dazs ice cream,” she told People. “That’s like my one go-to.” Judging from her Instagram, she also has a thing for cupcakes!

Meal Replacement Shakes

When the star doesn't have time to prepare herself a healthy meal — or when she just wants to slim down really fast — Kardashian sometimes relies on meal replacement shakes to get all of her vitamins and nutrients. However, before you go and follow her lead, you might want to speak with your physician first. Many health experts are skeptical about just how safe these weight loss drinks really are.

"These shakes are beyond dangerous to promote to society," Tracy Lockwood Beckerman, a registered dietitian in New York City and resident nutrition expert at Betches Media told InStyle. She noted that possible side effects could include diarrhea, uncomfortable headaches and drastic shifts.

Beckerman also explained that appetite suppressants are not only unhealthy for the body, but they "promote a false high where people may see results which may cause them to become addicted to these types of products." So maybe just stick to the clean, healthy whole foods and skip the shakes!
