How to Cover Redness on Your Face

Redness on the face may be caused by irritation, sunburn or rosacea, a chronic condition that results in flushed and bumpy skin. Topical treatments may help, but can take time to take effect. In the meantime, conceal redness on your face with certain makeup tips.

Step 1

Test products on your arm before applying them to your face to gauge whether you will have a negative reaction.

Step 2

Apply a green-tinted primer or base to your face. According to the National Rosacea Society, green-tinted bases even out skin tones and hide redness.

Step 3

Cover red spots with a concealer. Choose a concealer that is one shade lighter than your natural skin tone. Place a small dab of the concealer over red areas and gently blend it with your fingertips.

Step 4

Use an oil-free foundation in a shade close to your natural skin tone. Apply the foundation with a brush and smooth the liquid over your face. Start around your cheeks and blend in an outward direction. Blend well for a natural look that hides facial redness.

Step 5

Finish your look with a yellow-based powder, which can further conceal redness. Dust the powder in an even layer over the entire face.
