After a two-year hiatus from the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway, Karlie Kloss was back on the catwalk this week in Shanghai looking strong and ridiculously sexy.

So how did the model train for one of the biggest shows in the world? Oh, she just ran this little old race called the New York City Marathon. Yep, just two weeks before she stripped down to her skivvies and modeled some of the sexiest lingerie on the planet, the 25-year-old jogged across the finish line of the 26.2-mile race. What a badass, right?

“I just ran the marathon, and that was one of the greatest physical and mental challenges that I ever willingly signed up for, and I’m kind of addicted to it now,” she told People at the show. “I want to do it next year and maybe run another one in between. I’ve always dreamed of doing it and it was tough, but it was a great way to train for this runway.”

Kloss shared details about her run in an Instagram story, revealing that she finished the race in 4 hours, 41 minutes, 49 seconds. Shalane Flanagan won the big race in 2 hours, 26 minutes, 53 seconds, becoming the first American woman to take the top honors since 1977.

Earlier this month, Karlie revealed details about her post-training routine to Well + Good, and it is no joke. First off, she takes hydration very seriously. “Before and after every workout, I make sure to drink a ton of water and refuel my body with a protein shake and plenty of nutrients,” she told the site.

She also does a lot of stretching, using a foam roller on her legs “to work out any muscle cramps or tension, and ice immediately after running to help my body recover,” she said. “These steps go a long way in preventing injuries and reducing how sore my muscles feel the next day.” And, finally, she indulges in lymphatic massage, float sessions and infrared sauna sessions “for added recovery.”

At the show, Karlie also cleared up another fallacy about models to People: They don’t starve themselves before shows. In fact, she claims they actually have more in common with athletes than you would expect.

“I think all of us treat ourselves like athletes, and we’re constantly traveling and on the road. All of us have to train and have energy to do our job, and to work out and feel strong you have to eat properly and really fuel your body and your mind,” she said.

And after a big event she clearly isn’t afraid to indulge in some comfort food. “I’m looking forward to a delicious meal after the show,” she added. “I heard rumors there is going to be pizza at the after-party, so I look forward to that!”
