Demi Lovato wants you — as her song so perfectly says — to give your heart a break. True to her mission of promoting self-love, the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer recently announced that all concerts during her upcoming Tell Me You Love Me tour will be preceded by group therapy sessions, speeches and wellness workshops.

The sessions will be led by CAST Centers, a Los Angeles-based mental health and substance use disorder treatment center. Lovato was a patient there in 2011, according to E! Online, and now co-owns it with personal development coach Mike Bayer.
By bringing CAST Centers on tour, Lovato aims to promote dialogue about mental health and inspire people to seek help when they need it.
“I think it’s really important to take away the stigma of mental illness,” she says. “I actually have bipolar disorder, and I’m very open about that because I think that mental health affects so many people and that we need to take the stigma away from it.”
True fans of Lovato know this isn’t the first time she’s put mental health front and center: She provided the same services during her 2016 Future Now tour with Nick Jonas.
“I want to do this because, one, it was such an incredible experience the last time we did this on tour,” the 25-year-old tells Good Morning America. “I’ve actually met people that go to CAST because they went to CAST on tours and realized that they needed to get sober or they needed to better themselves in some other way, and it’s changed lives, and I want to be able to do that again. It’s part of my whole life — about giving back — and I think it’s really important that I continue to do this while I’m on tour.”
Lovato will also be partnering with a different mental health charity in every city her tour visits to raise funds. The CAST Center workshops are free to attend if you have a concert ticket, and you can sign up for them ahead of time at castontour.com/jointheexperience.
The Disney Channel actress-turned-pop star has been a longtime pioneer of mental wellness, revealing in her 2017 YouTube documentary “Simply Complicated” that she struggled with drug addiction earlier in her career and still battles disordered eating. But that hasn’t stopped her from being open about the everyday challenges she overcomes to achieve self-love.
This year alone, Lovato has given us plenty of body-positive inspiration. On January 4, she shared a photo of herself in a bathing suit, encouraging her followers to embrace “freedom from self-criticism.”
And she recently tweeted that she will no longer give in to food shaming, even when the struggle is real.
