How to Heal an Inflamed Bikini Area

A bumpy bikini line can be uncomfortable and unsightly. This delicate area is susceptible to cuts, ingrown hair and inflammation during -- and after -- shaving. One way to help prevent bikini blunders in the first place is by getting your bikini area waxed by a professional or by using a shaving cream that features soothing properties such as aloe vera. But if you still end up with a rough patch, don't let the inflammation burn you up. You can easily blast away bikini bumps and redness using a few topical remedies.

Step 1

Take a hot shower or bath to open up the pores in the bikini area.

Step 2

Scoop a dime-sized amount of exfoliant onto your fingertips.

Step 3

Rub the exfoliant very gently in small circles along your bikini line. This keeps your bikini area clean from dirt and oil that can clog the pores. It also gets rid of dead skin cells and loosens ingrown hairs that can lead to infection.

Step 4

Rinse the area with cool water, and pat dry with a soft towel. Refrain from rubbing -- it can cause further irritation.

Step 5

Apply a pea-sized amount of a low-dosage hydrocortisone cream to the inflamed area. Be careful to only treat the areas that are irritated.

Step 6

Apply an aloe-vera gel or a heavy moisturizer with witch hazel or rosemary to the area. These ingredients help soothe and heal the skin naturally.
