Pumice Stone Substitutes

Women are four times more likely to suffer foot problems than men. High heels are the main culprits in this disparity, according to the Foot Health Network. Dry, flaky feet and calluses are common foot conditions that occur when dead skin cells build up. A pumice stone is the usual go-to treatment for these conditions -- unless you're a diabetic. However, other foot care products can leave your feet soft and silky.

Washcloth

If you suffer from mild dryness of the feet and heels, a washcloth is the only exfoliant you need for your home pedicure. Remove dead skin cells when you shower or take a bath, or soak your feet in a basin first and then scrub away. A washcloth is also less irritating and drying to your skin.

Loofah

This hygiene staple for sloughing away dead skin cells comes from a plant of the genus Luffa. It's the dried, fibrous part of the cylindrical fruit. Soak your feet and the loofah first, then gently scrub your feet.

Foot Brush

Foot brushes come in a variety of styles and shapes. Some brushes also have an extended handle for people who have limited mobility and cannot reach their feet. When possible, choose brushes made from natural fibers. Skin brushing in general also helps to improve circulation and release toxins from your body, according to Mark Hyman, editor-in-chief of "Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine."

Organic Foot Scrubs

Organic foot scrubs feature ingredients such as sugar, walnuts, oatmeal, seeds, and coffee. They provide a relaxing and aromatic way to remove dead skin cells from the top and bottom of your feet. Organic foot scrubs also contain moisturizing oils and humectants such as honey and avocado oil that lock in and attract moisture.

Artemis Woman Heel Smoother

For feet with severe dead skin cell build-up or calluses, this gadget is a welcome solution. It's completely battery-operated so your arms and hands won't get tired. It's blade-free and has a safety mechanism that prevents you from exfoliating too much. The Artemis Woman Heel Smoother has been awarded the Seal of Acceptance by the American Podiatric Medical Association.

PedEgg

This egg-shaped foot file has stainless steel micro-files that remove dead skin and calluses and leave your feet feeling soft and smooth. Its ergonomic design makes it easy to manipulate. It also has a storage section to collect the dead skin cells that you file off your feet.
