Many people buy expensive products to treat pimples, and most of these products are effective. However, you can also make your own products to treat pimples for a fraction of the cost using some common items you probably already have on the shelves in your house. The first step in skin care is preventing pimples when possible by washing your face twice a day, drinking a lot of water and using oil-free makeup. But when pimples do appear, spot treatments can help them disappear more quickly.
Apply honey to pimples. Honey is a natural antiseptic and it has antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Even some cosmetic surgeons are experimenting with topical use of honey to heal skin after surgery. Dab a small amount of honey on a pimple and leave it on overnight, then wash face in the morning.
Cover your entire face with a mask of milk of magnesia. Allow it to dry for 30 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water. The magnesium in milk of magnesia is absorbed through the skin. The mask will soothe your skin, keep your pores open and remove excess oils, which may cause more acne.
Make a bowl of oatmeal. In this case, you don't eat the oatmeal, but apply it to your face instead. Make the oatmeal according to normal directions, which usually means adding one cup of water to one-half cup of oatmeal. It will be a runny consistency. Leave it on your face for 10 to 20 minutes, then rinse off. Add a small amount of honey if you wish.
Dab a small amount of toothpaste on pimples. According to dermatologist Dr. Audrey Kunin, toothpaste will absorb oil and dry out the pimple, allowing it to shrink faster.
