How to Make Exfoliating Products for Your Scalp

When you find yourself scratching your scalp like crazy, it’s time to exfoliate. The skin on your scalp is no different than the skin on the rest of your body -- it can dry and then start to flake off, leaving you with nasty, dead skin cells poking through your strands or coating your shirt. You don’t need any complicated or pricey products to give your scalp a good exfoliation. Make up a custom concoction right at home to slough off the dead skin and leave your scalp feeling smooth and soft.

Step 1

Pour 1/4 cup of clarifying shampoo and 1/4 cup of cornmeal into a bowl. Add a few drops of peppermint essential oil and tea tree essential oil and stir well with a spoon. The cornmeal is a mild exfoliate, peppermint oil stimulates blood flow, and tea tree oil helps to fight dandruff. Rub the mixture into your scalp for a few minutes, rinse well and condition as usual.

Step 2

Mix together 1/4 cup of olive oil and 1/4 cup of brown sugar in a bowl. Massage the mixture into your dry scalp for a few minutes before rinsing and washing your hair as usual.

Step 3

Combine 1/4 cup of hair conditioner and 1/4 cup of brown sugar in a bowl. Scrub the mixture onto your dry scalp. Rinse well, then shampoo and condition your hair as usual.
