A curved nose ring, also known as a nose screw, comes in several different gauges and materials. While 16- and 18-gauge diameter are most common, thinner gauges are available. Curved nose rings, often adorned with a stud at one end and an open-ended point at the other, thread through the skin of the nose at the piercing site. Unlike bone studs that sometimes fit too loosely in the nostril, curved nose rings fit securely, leaving little room for slippage.

Rinse your hands with warm water and squirt a dime-sized amount of antibacterial soap into the palm of one hand. Build-up a lather and massage the skin of your hands and under your fingernails with the soap. Rinse to remove soap residue and blot your hands dry with a towel.

Apply a water-based lubricant to the tip of a cotton swab. Apply a thin layer of lubricant to the outer side of your nose piercing and the inner side.

Hold the curved nose ring with your dominant hand, exposing the pointed end. Push the pointed end of the curved nose ring into the outer side of your piercing hole.

Place the thumb of your other hand inside your nose, against the inner side of the piercing hole. Continue to push the curved nose ring into the hole, turning clockwise as you push.

Guide the pointed end of the curved nose ring through the inside of the piercing hole with your thumb. Continue pushing and rotating the jewelry clockwise until the stud sits comfortably against the skin of your nose.
