How to Get Rid of Freckles With Lemon Juice

Freckles, most common in people with fair skin and red or blond hair, are flat, dark spots that appear on areas of the skin exposed to sunlight, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The best way to fade old freckles and prevent the appearance of new ones is to protect your skin by using a sunscreen with a SPF factor of 30 or by wearing hats or other protective garments, advises Health Services at Columbia University. Although lemon juice won't make them disappear, the juice has a lightening effect that can fade your freckles, making them less noticeable.

Lemon Slices

Step 1

Wash your hands with soap and warm water before treating your freckles. Clean hands will prevent spreading dirt or bacteria to your face.

Step 2

Use a sharp knife to cut a fresh lemon into thin slices. Place the lemon slices on the freckled areas.

Step 3

Sit back and relax for 10 minutes, then remove the lemons. Rinse your skin with warm water and pat it dry gently with a soft towel.

Step 4

Apply a light moisturizer to your skin, as lemon juice can be drying. Repeat the lemon treatment once every week until the freckles fade.

Lemon Scrub

Step 1

Use a lemon juice scrub to remove dead skin and help to fade freckles. Roll a lemon on a table or counter top to loosen the juice. Cut the lemon in half and sprinkle 1/2 tsp. white sugar over the cut side of the lemon.

Step 2

Rub the lemon over your freckles for two to three minutes. Rinse the lemon juice and sugar from your skin with warm water.

Step 3

Pat your skin dry with a soft towel, then apply your favorite moisturizer. Use the lemon scrub once every week.
