What Are the Benefits of Asian Pears?

Fall is prime season for juicy, crisp and golden-colored Asian pears, also known as apple pears, sand pears or Chinese pears. Unlike with other pear varieties, you don't have to wait until Asian pears are soft -- you can enjoy them when they're crisp, right from the store. The health benefits of Asian pears make them a nutritious addition to any meal or snack.

The Perks of Asian Pears

Low in calories and fat and a good source of fiber, Asian pears fit into your healthy diet and get you closer to the daily 1.5 to 2 cups of fruit recommended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. One medium Asian pear provides just 51 calories, 0.28 grams of fat and 4.4 grams of fiber. You'll also benefit from vitamins and minerals in the fruit, such as potassium, magnesium, folate and vitamins C and K. Asian pears work well in a variety of recipes and keep for up to four months in your refrigerator, according to the Fine Cooking website.
