Pimples of the eyelids are known as sties. These pimples can develop due to bad hygiene or using expired cosmetics. The most likely cause for the development of these pimples is a bacterial infection. The staphylococcus bacteria is the most common agent of infection. If left untreated sties can take up to a week to resolve themselves, although they may not resolve on their own. In rare cases sties swell without bursting placing pressure on your eyeball.
Keep your eye clean. Close your eyes when you wash your face and do not apply make up to the area of the pimple.
Apply a warm wet washcloth to your eye for 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat this several times a day. This can speed up the recovery process considerably.
Do not wear contact lenses until the sty has resolved itself. Also do not touch your eyes without first thoroughly washing your hands.
Make sure the cosmetics you are using are not expired.
If the sty does not pop after a week to ten day and begins to swell consult with your ophthalmologist. Minor surgery may be necessary.
