Age spots are hyperpigmentation of the skin, leading to brown freckle-like spots across the body but most commonly on the face, hands and decollete. When it comes to their reversal, a healthy diet in combination with topical treatments can return skin to its natural color and tone.

Reversing Age Spots

Age spots, also known as liver spots, occur as a result of exposure to the sun and, in some cases, nutritional deficiencies. Reversing age spots is, however, possible by eating a diet rich in potassium and selenium along with a wide array of other nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables. combination with improving the diet, age spots can also be reversed with topical treatments containing the active ingredient hydroquinone. Hydroquinone prevents the skin's natural ability to create melanin, the pigment responsible for the production of age spots. For those with sensitive skin, look for active ingredients such as soy, mulberry, vitamin C, licorice and kojic acid which have also been shown to visibly reduce the appearance of age spots.
