Taurine is an amino acid used in Amp Energy that is promoted to enhance physical activity and when combined with caffeine, to increase mental endurance. This claim does not come without controversy according to MayoClinic.com. While one energy drink was banned in several European countries because of its effects, a study in 2003 showed that the amounts of taurine, ginseng and guarana are "far below the amounts expected to deliver either therapeutic benefits or adverse events."
