The makers of Kyo-Green claim the nutritional supplement gives you a gentle energy boost, provides key nutrients and supports healthy digestion. It contains a proprietary blend of wheat and barley grass, kelp, chlorella and fructo-oligosaccharides. These ingredients offer nutritional value, and Kyo-Green may offer some health benefits.

May Boost Energy

According to a pilot study published in February 2003, Kyo-Green may boost your energy levels. In the study, women with low libido and men with erectile dysfunction took Kyo-Green for three months. Completely separate from the beneficial effects seen on libido and erectile function, all participants reported an increase in energy levels within weeks of taking Kyo-Green, the authors state. The study appears in the journal Medical Science Monitor.

Rich in Soluble Fiber

Fructo-oligosaccharides are indigestible carbohydrates that you may not be familiar with but are likely consuming. They're found in foods like onion, chicory, garlic, asparagus, banana and artichoke. The FOS in Kyo-Green come from chicory root, and researchers assert that these carbs, which are considered soluble fiber, have various health benefits. Fructo-oligosaccharides serve as food for beneficial bacteria in your intestines and stimulates the growth of probiotics that help keep your digestive system healthy.

Consuming FOS promotes regularity and improves mineral absorption, according to a study appearing in the September 2009 edition of the Journal of Physiology and Biochemistry. Like other soluble fibers, FOS lowers cholesterol as well, say the authors.

Provides Concentrated Nutrients

Grasses like wheat and barley are nutrient-dense. The wheatgrass and barley grass in Kyo-Green provide an excellent source of various vitamins and minerals, reports David Sandoval in his book "The Green Foods Bible." Wheatgrass and barley grass are loaded with concentrated amounts of vitamins A, C, E and K as well as the trace minerals zinc, copper, manganese and iron. Both grasses are a good source of the B complex vitamins thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, pyridoxine, pantothenic acid and folate as well.

Seaweed Benefits

Kyo-Green contains the seaweeds kelp and chlorella, both of which are good sources of trace minerals and fiber. Like other plants, seaweeds have antioxidant properties that help protect your cells from free-radical damage. Seaweed also improves blood sugar control and lowers the level of lipids circulating in the blood, according to a study that appears in the June 2008 edition of the journal Nutrition Research and Practice.
