Personal trainers may choose to specialize in specific areas of interest. Some trainers choose to work with athletes or the elderly, for example, and pursue certifications tailored to working with those populations. If your interest is bodybuilding, you can choose from several different certifications that will help you build your knowledge and credentials in that area.

National Gym Association

The National Gym Association (NGA) is a leading non-profit organization supporting, teaching and training individuals in the art and science of bodybuilding. Master trainers have in-depth knowledge on biochemistry, physiology and anatomy, which they can apply to helping their clients achieve bodybuilding success.

These courses are offered in an eight-week home-study format and you must be certified in CPR and first aid. To receive master trainer certification, you must also have three years of experience in the fitness field.
