The next time you're searching for a quick side dish, cook up some noodles for a simple, yet satisfying dish. Basic buttered noodles pair well with a flavorful, marinated piece of fish or chicken, as well as a heel of crusty bread. The noodles are mild in flavor, so they don't compete with the flavor of the dish you're presenting. A 1-cup serving of buttered noodles does have 7.5 g of fat, so incorporate some vegetables into the dish to improve the noodles' lackluster nutritional value and add some protein and fiber.

Fill a pot with at least 2 quarts water, and place it on the stove over high heat to boil. Add 1 tsp. of salt to season the pasta.
Pour a 1-lb. package of pasta into the water once it comes to a boil.
Stir to disperse the pasta evenly, then turn the heat down to medium. Allow to boil seven to 10 minutes, until tender, or according to package directions. You may also use fresh pasta. A whole wheat variety add extra fiber to the dish while taking only five minutes to cook. If you prefer gluten-free dining, select egg white pasta instead.
Drain the pasta in a colander and rinse with warm water.
Return the noodles to the pot with the burner on low, and add 4 tbsp., or roughly ½ stick, of butter.
Stir to melt the butter and incorporate into the pasta. For a more flavorful sauce, add 2 tsp. garlic powder or chopped sage leaves.
Drizzle 1 to 2 tbsp. olive oil over the pasta and stir. This will moisten the pasta for a creamier butter sauce.
Squeeze the juice from half of a lemon over the top of the pasta to brighten the flavor, then finish by chopping a handful of fresh parsley and sprinkling it over the noodles' tops.
Add a package of defrosted frozen vegetables to the noodles and stir until warmed to add nutritional value to the side dish. You may also add pieces of shredded, cooked chicken in order to create a complete meal with the buttered noodles.
