Mint tea and other types of herbal teas, have been used regularly in holistic and Asian medicine for their healing and relaxation properties. If you suffer from dry, swollen or puffy eyes, mint tea bags can be used as a form of hot compression under your eyes to help reduce swelling.

If you are suffering from dry, swollen eyes, soak two tea bags in hot water for several minutes. From here, place both of the two tea bags firmly on your closed eyelids for approximately 20 minutes. During the 20 minutes, the tannins found in the mint tea will interact with the skin around and on your eyelids, helping to reduce inflammation and pain in your eyes. While the teabags are on your eyes, try to stay in a reclined position to maintain pressure on your eyelids.
In addition to the effect of the actual mint teabags on your eyes, inhaling the steam from mint tea will also have healing effects on your sinuses and the skin surrounding your nose and eyes. Peppermint has a strong menthol aroma that can cause your eyes to water and sinuses to tingle. This effect on your eyes can be a cleansing experience, helping keep your eyes moist.
Cold Eye Compress
While hot tea bags can help to relieve puffy and swollen eyes, a cold mint tea eye compress focuses more on reducing swelling in the eyes. Boil water, allowing two tea bags to steep for about two minutes. From here, remove the bags from the water, placing them in a plastic bag and allowing them to cool in a refrigerator for 20 minutes. After they have cooled, place them over your eyes for 10 minutes.
A sty is a bump that usually presents itself on the edge or inside of your eyelid. It can become red and swollen as a result of bacteria getting into your eyelash follicles. A hot compress, such as a mint tea bag, can be placed over your eye three to four times a day for five to 10 minutes. The heat can often help the bacteria in the sty come to the surface, directly helping you to eliminate your sty.
