Broward County, situated in the southeast portion of Florida, is home to more than 1.7 million residents and includes many cites and towns. Take your family to visit some of the museums in Broward County such as the Young At Art Museum (youngatartmuseum.org) in Davie. This 55,000 square-foot museum features hands-on kids activities such as Alice's Pool, Puppet Theater, Alice's Art and Games, and Art Passport. Kids can also participate in art classes and art camps at this location. You could also visit the Museum of Discovery and Science (mods.org) in Fort Lauderdale. Make your way through exhibits such as the EcoDiscovery Center, Go Green, Runways to Rockets and Powerful You! Catch a movie while you're there on the five-story high IMAX screen. Special events take place throughout the year, as do camps and special programs for kids.
Visit Butterfly World (butterflyworld.com) in Coconut Creek. This park is the largest butterfly park in the world and the first of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. You'll see thousands of butterflies as they fly about, and lorikeets, hummingbirds and a variety of tropical birds. Inside the Insectarium, you can see an assortment of butterflies, moths and unusual insects from around the world. Check out the Bug Zoo, with spooky spiders, wasps and gigantic water bugs. You'll find a variety of indoor activities at Secret Woods Nature Center (no website; 2701 W. State Road 84, Dania Beach; 954-357-8885). The Monarch Interpretive Center features 2,000 square-feet of interpretive displays and hands-on activities, including a working beehive, a display with snakes native to the area and American Indian artifacts.
Do your kids need a place where they can use up some of their excess energy? Jump Zone Party Play Center (jumpzoneparty.com) in Sunrise features inflatables, climbing structures, slides, an obstacle course and a variety of games to keep your children busy and happy. Or, you could take your children to Little Java's Family Fun Center (littlejavas.com) in Weston. This 12,000 square-foot facility has activities for the whole family, including a ropes course, Adventure Zone challenge, bounce houses, character visitors and even a separate toddler area for the smallest members of the family.
Arcade and Amusement Parks
Older kids might seek something a bit more exciting. Xtreme Indoor Carting (xtremeindoorkarting.com) is a 90,000 square-foot entertainment complex in Fort Lauderdale and features an indoor go-kart track, more than 100 arcade games, an indoor mini-golf course and a cafe. You could also visit Hollywood Park Family Fun Center (hollywoodfunpark.com) in Hollywood for some thrills. This facility offers indoor go-karts, a Lazer Frenzy-Lazer Maze and a Typhoon motion ride. There is also an arcade with prize redemption center.
