9 Reasons Chicks Should Start Mountain Biking

1. It's fun. The first and most important reason why chicks should start mountain biking is because it's fun. If that sounds simple, that's because it is. This kind of fun isn't reserved for the boys, so if you're intimidated, don't be. Riding trails, jumping off curbs and popping wheelies is way easier than it looks -- and it's straight-up addictive.

2. It's like hiking -- on speed. If you like to hike, you'll love to mountain bike. You get to go way farther and way faster -- and get some killer photo ops.

3. It's safe. Like all sports, mountain biking does come with inherent risks. However, there are ways to greatly reduce those risks. It's simple: Wear a helmet. Lucky for us, Bell Helmets does not mess around when it comes to protecting our domes. Their experts test, retest and retest the retest until they are confident the helmets they produce delivers the safest and most performance-driven product possible.

Plus, they just look so cool! But at the end of the day, you have to be ready for a few scratches and scrapes.

4. It's a great way to challenge yourself. You don't know what you're capable of until you try. Believe it or not, you can go from a novice biker to a jump-hitting fiend in one afternoon. Don't believe me? The fearless femmes who coach the Trek Dirt Series will prove it at the Trek Dirt Series Mountain Bike Camps.

5. It's humbling. While you don't always look cool, you'll definitely feel cool. And, at the end of the day, that's what matters most.

6. It's a great way to spend time with friends. There's nothing like miles of trail, pure seclusion and the palpable freedom to unlock your true, unadulterated potential to have fun. Pack your day bag, pick up your friends and leave your worries at the trailhead -- because you have memories to make.

7. It's a full-body workout. Hate going to the gym? Mountain biking is a great endurance-based, full-body activity to add to your cross-training routine.

8. No cars. Get anxious or nervous biking next to cars? Well, that's just something that mountain bikers don't have to deal with:

9. It's a great way to meet new friends. Your vibe attracts your tribe. For the adventurous souls in need of riding buddies with similar riding experience, check out your local bike shop: The staff will know the local trails and riding community. Or you can sign up for Dirt Series and make new friends while taking your skills to the next level.
