All You Need is The Internet (and Your Body) for a Great Workout!

Good news: Your body is the only tool you need for one of the major shifts in the evolution of fitness. Just do a quick Google search and you’ll see countless articles stating that body-weight exercises such as planks, push-ups, and burpees are among the hottest trends for fitness.

As a former competitive runner, I was trained to believe that your own body was the only piece of equipment you needed to get fit! From running and plyometrics to body-weight resistance training - I was in the best shape of my life and had never stepped foot inside a traditional gym.
In fact, I am elated to learn that I am finally “on trend,” given that my entire philosophy is based on the idea that getting fit is not about spending more time or money on exercise, it is about exercising less and making the time spent more effective and higher quality! Yes, you should be able to get a great workout anywhere.
Going hand-in-hand with this trend is the shift to the internet as a primary source where people get their  fitness information. The internet has become the #1 fitness source for unlimited access and support through everything from social media and apps, to online magazines and YouTube.
Seriously though, rather than going to a gym, all you need to do is open up your computer or turn to your tablet or phone to download workout videos, get recipes, tips and more!
I have to admit, up until 2 years ago I was the most internet-averse person out there.  The simple thought of turning to YouTube for advice or entertainment was not in my repertoire of thoughts, and so the fact that YouTube is one of the core components of my career is miraculous. I consider myself a laggard when it comes to technology and pretty much all pop culture, but I have warmed up to the fact that online IS the future, and actually it’s much easier and more informative and entertaining than I would have ever wanted to admit.
It took blind jumps into the Web for me to actually embrace it. I launched a YouTube channel before I had ever even subscribed to one, and then launched my first app (Hot Body By Amanda) this past New Year’s Day before ever having downloaded an app myself. (I kid you not.) I know I may be criticized for admitting this, but I just want to be honest, and when an opportunity presents, I always go with what excites me and what my instincts say.
Bottom line, if I can embrace this online fitness revolution, anyone can! So just go for it, and start Googling away any questions or topics you want to know about fitness, and I bet you’ll find it.

Most recently, just after my app launched, I was introduced to the Apple Newsstand, for those of you who aren’t familiar, now even your magazines and books can be found on your phone!

So how do I know this? Pretty much like all my other endeavors - I jumped ship to take the cover of a new online magazine before having officially read my first online mag. Why? Because when I heard the concept for this particular magazine I was an immediate fan!

Hitting Apple’s newsstand this week, the magazine is called “Pocket Workouts.” The concept behind the magazine is to inform people that they can access the world’s best information on exercise and staying healthy on their smart phones and tablet devices no matter where they are. The whole magazine pretty much embodies the entire online fitness trend of portability.

While most health and fitness magazines are predominantly in print and throw hundreds of advertisements in their readers’ faces, Pocket Workouts provides readers with a more interactive, clean reading experience, since they are 100% advertisement-free.  Plus, thanks to the Apple Newsstand, Pocket Workouts is able to provide interactive video content such as video workouts and video nutrition recipes.

What’s not to love, right? Check it out for yourself here and let me know what you think of it!

If you have access to a computer, you have endless information and resources to get your body in shape.  So this year, get out of your own way, and get into the best shape of your life.  Explore fitness apps, online magazines, YouTube videos, and more, I think you’ll be excited about the wealth of information you can find and learn.
