One Rule That Will Help You to Be Happier, Healthier and More Successful

What if I told you that there is only one rule that is absolutely essential to your long-term balance, health and happiness. Would you wonder what the one rule is that I'm talking about?

Here are some hints: When you fly on an airplane, during the safety video they tell you to put the oxygen mask on yourself before assisting children with theirs. When you open up any financial wealth advice book, they all say to pay yourself before you pay anyone else and that over time you will eventually be blessed with abundance.

I want to inspire you to take this same philosophy and apply it in your everyday life. The rule states:

"Take 10 percent of your day and give back to yourself."

If the average individual sleeps for eight hours a night, that means the remaining time spent awake during the day is 16 hours. So 10 percent of waking life would equate to 1.6 hours a day set aside for you to invest in your own health and wellness.

Carving out this very realistic amount of time for yourself will be an amazing and refreshing change to your daily routine. How can you give to others if you don't take the time to give back to yourself? Essentially, we have to be a little selfish in order to be selfless!

What we are now seeing at the elite level of all career paths (athletes, CEOs, celebrities, filmmakers, etc.) is that the individuals who make it to the top and stay there are applying this rule to their lives every day. The people who choose not to follow this rule quickly burn out, leading to an eventual fall from power.

By taking the time to invest in our own health, we become wealthy for the long term in so many amazing ways.

Many of the greatest teachers throughout history taught about the importance of balance in all the different aspects of life. The Buddha called it the "Middle Path." Anytime we stray from this path for too long, we create imbalance. If we are imbalanced, our health, energy, productivity and creativity levels plummet. In addition, our stress hormones skyrocket, causing cortisol to flood our bodies, which ultimately speeds up the aging process.

By setting aside 10 percent of your day, you are creating balance. Balance is the factor that will enable you to reach the summit of success in all facets of your life.

So whatever health and wellness means for you -- whether it's going to the gym, hiking, going to the spa, meditating or doing a yoga DVD program like my program The Ultimate Yogi -- make sure you make time for yourself for 1.6 hours of your day. You will see significant and positive improvements in your immunity, vitality and energy levels.

Readers -- Had you heard of this rule before? What do you think about it? Do you take time out of each day for yourself? If so, what do you do during that time? If not, why don't you take the time for yourself? Leave a comment below and let us know.
