heart rate zone

Hi! Just finished strength training and going for a bike ride next.
What's everyone's opinion on training in the fat burning heart rate zone?? Is it better than the cardio / peak zone?? I did a 3 run session yesterday and heart rate was in the peak zone. I like to keep my run going to keep burning more calories in a shorter time, same as doing a high intensity interval training.
My goal currently is definitely to slim down and tone up.
