struggling to lose weight

I weigh too much and I am just struggling. I do a fairly good job and sometimes maybe only go 100 over. That is occasional.

    • Hi mal, what's goin' on? Can you give us more info, eg. how long you've been on your journey? Your height and weight? Age? Goals? What do you find most challenging? If we have this kind of info, we can make suggestions to help.

    • I am 5'7 and about 210 lbs. My typical weight would be somewhere around 180. I gained a bunch of weight in a treatment facility for eating disorders (binge eating) while I was hoping to lose weight there as I was in the 190s, with no exercise and forced eating, I gained significant weight. I am trying to lose weight in a healthy way, vs other ways I have in the past (only 1,200 cals, no exercise counting, exercise for hours etc). Now I am eating the amount given per day plus the extra given through daily steps and exercise. While I just got back on this app a week ago, I have been trying to lose for the last couple months- and I have only lost 8 lbs. I'm frustrated because I'm trying to do this the "right" way and have little to show for it. I want to feel like myself again.

    • Well I first want to say I am proud of your progress. 8 pounds may seem little in The grand scheme of your goal, but it is something. It is a step in the right direction. You may not be losing weight faster because of the actual foods you are consuming. Look into balancing your diet more with protein, and look up metabolism boosting foods. One I can name off the top of my head is avocados!

    • Mal. C'mon girl. You have to be more objective with yourself. Eight pounds in a couple of months, is AMAZING! You say you want to do this the "right way", well guess what honey, this is the right way!

      Dumping a bunch of weight quickly isn't healthy nor is it sustainable in the long run. So. Do you want to look good for a short time? Or do you want to look great and feel great forever? You may think I'm exaggerating, but I'm not.

      And here's another thing: those damn numbers on the scale aren't everything, they're only ONE thing. How are your clothes fitting? Do you have more stamina? Sleeping better? Stronger? So many other indicators that you're doing this the right way. If you have to, stay off that scale for a while and just trust that what you're doing is working.

      You, my dear, are going in the right direction, so please be gentle and patient with yourself. This is a marathon, not a sprint, so just hang in there, ok?

    • 8lbs is awesome!!!! Also in this app you put in your activity level (sedentary to active) so if you put yours in then don't track your steps as exercise as this is your regular activity level. If you go for a walk and do 3 miles in an hour then track that purposeful exercise but not just regular steps. Keep being awesome!

    • Tracking your steps as exercise is your problem. Stop doing that and you should be good.

    • Hi! If you're really worried about a lack of progress I'd check with your doctor to see if you have thyroid issues or PCOS. (That's how I found out about my PCOS lol) and congratulations on 8 pounds! It might not feel like a lot to you but it's amazing! Most likely 8 lbs of fat were lost and you built muscle!
