Livestrong's Chai Latte

Craving a chai latte but hate the added sugars from the store-bought variety? DIY this drink at home and spare yourself the added sugar. Our comforting recipe has only 95 calories and 11 grams of sugar compared to Starbuck's version that has as much as 42 grams of sugar.

INGREDIENTS

SERVES 2

  • 2 tsp Red Label, Loose Leaf Black Tea
  • 1 1/2 cups Almond Breeze Almond Milk
  • 1/2 packet Chai Tea Latte Mix
  • 4 tsp Arrowroot Powder

DIRECTIONS

1 In a small saucepan on high heat, bring 1.5 cups of water to a boil then remove from heat.
2 Once water is calm and bubbles have subsided, add tea and steep for 3-5 minutes, then strain tea leaves and discard.
3 Whisk together a half-cup of almond milk with the arrowroot powder until dissolved. Set aside.
4 In a small saucepan over low-medium heat, whisk together remaining cup of almond milk and chai spice mix until well combined, and bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
5 Whisk in the almond milk-arrowroot mixture until liquid has just started to thicken, about 30 seconds. Remove from heat immediately. Whisk in the black tea until smooth.
6 Divide tea and chai-spiced milk evenly between two mugs. Stir in sweetener as desired.
