Salsa Verde Steak is a simple traditional, home-cooked Mexican dish with great big flavors. Tender pieces of beef in a simple homemade salsa verde perfect for a high-protein diet. This recipe shows you how to make a simple salsa verde completely from scratch, but if you’re looking to save time in the kitchen, feel free to use canned green enchilada sauce.

INGREDIENTS

SERVES 6

  • 1 medium Tomatillos, raw
  • 1 cup Water, tap, drinking
  • 1 serving Chile Serrano
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil, Extra Virgin
  • 1 oz cooked top sirloin steak
  • 1/2 cup White Onion
  • 1 Hungarian Wax Pepper
  • 1 medium Onions, Diced Red

DIRECTIONS

1 Bring the tomatillos to a boil in the 6 cups of water in a medium saucepan over high heat. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer over low heat for 10-to-12 minutes, just until tomatillos are cooked through. Remove from heat; let cool completely.
2 Remove the tomatillos with a slotted spoon and transfer to a blender cup. Puree the cooled tomatillos with the serrano chiles, garlic, and cilantro until smooth; set aside.
3 Heat olive oil in a large skillet over high heat. Saute steak strips until no longer pink; season with salt and pepper to taste. Continue to cook the steak until lightly golden and all of the juices from the meat have evaporated.
4 Stir in the sliced onion and peppers. Sauté for 3-to-5 minutes until onion is translucent.
5 Pour in the salsa verde and let simmer until heated through.
6 Remove from heat. Garnish with chopped red onion just before serving.
