Stress Relief and Fewer Infections
Research published in 2014 in the
SAGE Journal of Psychological Science linked frequent hugs with less stress and a lower risk for infections. Working sensual touch into your morning sexy time may provide similar perks by keeping stress at a minimum and triggering the release of oxytocin, aka the bonding hormone. “While you get a release of oxytocin anytime you experience pleasure, doing it in the a.m. helps you maximize the benefits," says Kait Scalisi, MPH, a New York City-based sex educator. How? "A hit of oxytocin early in the day boosts your mood and helps you feel more loving towards your beau all day long,” she says.

More Excitement and Pleasure
Evening sex can be hot, but sometimes you may be too tired at the end of a long day to really enjoy it. That's why many people prefer morning sex, because they feel refreshed after a good night's rest. In fact, some
scientists believe that arousal during REM sleep is the body’s way of increasing blood flow for healthier genital tissue. And blood flow isn’t the only thing to rise wink wink. “People with penises have the highest level of testosterone early in the a.m.,” said Scalisi. “That means they’ll be hornier and can last longer. It may even make them more adventurous.”

Healthier Hair, Skin and Nails
Morning sex can also
boost estrogen levels, which may cause some major beauty perks, according to Scalisi. Higher estrogen levels can lead to clearer skin, more luminous locks and stronger nails. “If you think this sounds like the benefit of using the pill, you’d be right!” she added. “The synthetic estrogen has the same effect in your body.” (This is also why you may have great skin, hair and nails during pregnancy when hormone levels are high.) Engaging in orgasmic morning sex on the reg may help you experience these beauty perks long-term.

Less Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction affects roughly 10 percent of male adults long-term, according to the
Cleveland Clinic, and most men experience occasional difficulty achieving or maintaining erections. If you’re prone to “technical difficulties,” morning sex may be your best bet.
“If the erectile dysfunction is mild and is due to psychological causes, such as anxiety, then the best time for sex is early morning,” said
Dr. Adeeti Gupta, a board-certified gynecologist and sexual health expert who practices holistic gynecology in New York City. “After a full night’s sleep, the brain and the rest of the [body’s] systems have sort of hit a reset, and anxiety hormones, such as cortisol levels, being at their lowest point, allow a longer-lasting erection.”

Improved Sexual Desire
According to Gupta, low sexual desire most commonly derives from psychological factors for all genders. “Most couples nowadays are working hard all day long and [have] busy schedules, after-dinner cleaning up, putting kids to bed, etc. By the time they hit the bed the act of sex also feels like a chore,” she said. “A full night’s sleep resets the body and mind and can be very beneficial in low-desire issues due to fatigue.”
Another way to increase desire through morning sex?
Schedule it. Knowing that it’s coming can build anticipation, and making it a priority can keep it top of mind rather than something that falls onto your “maybe” list.

Fewer Buzzkills and Better Performance
If you usually engage in sex after dinner, everything from alcohol and gaseous foods to heartburn and indigestion can make it less fun or palatable. “Alcohol is a well-known inhibitor of sexual performance,” explained Gupta, adding that the effects of a heavy dinner can also hinder sexual performance because blood flows to your gastrointestinal tract instead of to your genitals. Morning sex tends to bypass these things because your body has had all night to digest. If you have to have your java first, do so. But take it easy to avoid
gassiness brought on by caffeine.

A Healthier Heart
Sex and orgasms are good for your heart (and not merely Cupid's metaphorical one). Research published in the
Journal of Health and Social Behavior in 2016 linked higher sex frequency in men with delayed risk of cardiovascular events and higher quality of sex in women with protection from heart conditions later in life.
“Orgasm is one of the healthiest phenomenons that our bodies can experience,” said Gupta. “There is increased blood flow, increased heart rate and increased cardiac output, not just through the sexual organs, but through the entire body.” While these benefits can arise any time, getting busy in the morning may affect your body similarly to working out first thing and getting the blood flowing. “The positive effects on the blood vessels and the nervous system lead to better mood, energy and performance throughout the day,” Gupta added.
