Lavender and tea tree oil are two of the most potent natural cures in the world. Derived from the small leaves of a native plant in Australia, tea tree oil has been used as a topical treatment by aboriginal people for centuries. Lavender oil comes from lavender flowers grown throughout Europe and North America and is used as a natural anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and relaxing agent.

Antibacterial, Anti-Acne and Antifungal

Tea tree oil and lavender oil both have antiseptic properties, meaning they can inhibit the growth of bacteria. When applied topically, they may prevent skin infections.

Use tea tree or lavender in an anti-acne toner by adding a few drops of both oils to 9 tablespoons of rose water. To make an acne-fighting serum, add 2 drops tea tree and 1 drop lavender to pure aloe vera gel.

Tea tree oil is also a powerful antifungal ingredient. Treat toenail fungus with a small amount of tea tree and lavender essential oils combined.

Tip

Always dilute tea tree and lavender oils when using topically.

Lavender for Relaxation

Many aromatherapists use lavender oil because it helps the mind to relax. Here are a few tips to incorporate it into a wellness routine.

  • To help you get to sleep, place a drop of lavender essential oil on a cotton ball and tuck it into a pillowcase.
  • Dab lavender oil on the back of the neck to relieve tension and headaches.
  • For a calming massage oil, add 5 to 10 drops lavender oil to 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil.
  • Add a few drops of lavender in the bathtub for instant relaxation or to soothe away aches and pains.
  • For aching feet, treat yourself to a warm foot bath to relax the muscles and improve circulation.
