Herbs That Help Essential Tremors

Essential tremors is a nervous disorder, which results in extreme shaking or tremoring on various parts of the body, on different sides of the body. Tremors can be observed on the hands, arm, head, larynx, tongue and chin. It is very rare for the tremors to affect the lower extremities of the body. Herbs are a great support for these essential tremors. The best known herbs include oat straw, skull cap, lady's slipper, and passion flower.

Oat Straw and Tremors

Oat straw, also known as Avena Sativa, is a common herb with beneficial healing. It has been known in addition to helping with tremors, to calm hyperactive children, decrease panic attacks and fight anxiety. Other things it is noted for are acting as an anti-depressant, fighting osteoporosis, building bones and relieving pain.

Skull Cap and Tremors

Skull Cap is a member of the mint family and is grown in North America in moist woodlands. It is known, in addition to decreasing anxiety leading to tremors, for relaxing nervous tension, while renewing and reviving the central nervous system. Seizures and epilepsy are common illnesses which use this herb for treatment. Skull Cap also helps to improve circulation, strengthen heart muscles, relieve pain, spasms, and stress. It is often prescribed for acute tonsillitis and strep throat, and can act as an antiviral agent for treatment of the flu.

Lady's Slipper and Tremors

Lady's Slipper, or Cypripedium Pubescens, is a perennial plant grown in the woods and meadows in North America. It has a rootstock which produces hairy stems with alternate leaves of golden yellow lined with purple. In addition to helping calm tremors, Lady's Slipper is known to help with nervousness associated with fevers, boost an exhausted nervous system, help with cholera and epilepsy. It is also referred to as "moccasin flower" due to the lower lip forming a sac which resembles a moccasin. It is a member of the orchid family.

Passion Flower and Tremors

Passion Flower is a perennial vine located in southeastern United States of America. It can be found in Virginia, Kentucky, south to Florida and Texas. It grows in open fields, alongside fences, on the side of the road, and in waste areas. The fruit and flowers have a sweet smell and can be eaten raw or cooked in jellies and jams. The flavonoids are the primary reason the herb is known for the help it gives in calming tremors. Flavonoids are known for relaxing and relieving anxiety. It is also known for helping with vaginal discharges, premenstrual tension, insomnia, nervous tension, irritability neuralgia and irritable bowel syndrome. The name refers to the passion of the Christ, as the 12 petals represent the disciples and the three stamens represent the wounds suffered by Christ, when he was crucified.
