What To Look For

Antiperspirant deodorants usually contain an aluminum ingredient to absorb sweat from the skin. Effective products have limited other ingredients and simply apply the active ingredient thoroughly over the area. Ban Roll-On, one classic brand of deodorant, offers effective and long-lasting protection compared to many other antiperspirant deodorants. You can find Ban deodorants in many stores, and for most people, one application in 24 hours gives a sufficient effect.

Common Pitfalls

Overapplying, underapplying and applying deodorant in the wrong area will all reduce the efficacy of a good deodorant. Pay attention to where your sweat glands seem most active, and apply antiperspirant there first and foremost. You might find that antiperspirant deodorants can build up in clothing, leading to a stiff stain in the armpits of favorite garments. Roll-ons cause this effect less frequently than stick deodorants, but to avoid it more effectively, even with a roll-on, let the deodorant dry before putting on a shirt or blouse.

Where To Buy

Ban Roll-On antiperspirant deodorants sell for similar prices in most retail stores. Drugstores, supermarkets and discount department stores like Target and Walmart all carry this brand. Drugstores like Walgreens and Rite-Aid often have the best range of sizes, though. Since the deodorant is liquid, airport security guidelines may require that you pack a small travel size rather than a full-size bottle if you plan to travel with it in your carry-on baggage in the U.S.A.

Cost

As deodorants go, Ban Roll-On runs relatively high in cost, usually between $4 and $6 for a 3.5 ounce bottle, and between $2 and $4 dollars for a 1.5 ounce bottle. The deodorant will probably take you longer to run through than a cheap stick deodorant if used sparingly, which makes it relatively cost-effective for most people.

Comparison Shopping

Ban offers several products with different scents, and an unscented version. Their "Regular" fragrance, relatively mild, makes a good compromise between an unscented and a strongly scented product. Most of Ban's products work well for men and women alike. Ban also offers stick deodorants, but roll-ons have less likelihood of damaging clothing. Gel deodorants, which they also sell, create somewhat more mess than roll-on deodorants but less than stick deodorants.

Accessories

Taking a shower and lathering your underarms with a good soap, a more drying body soap rather than a moisturizing cosmetic soap, will remove detritus from your skin and make Ban deodorant or any other preparation more effective. For those of you women and pioneering men who prefer shave body hair, an underarm shave or wax to remove hair makes cleaning easier and causes antiperspirant deodorant to stay on your skin longer and prevent sweating more effectively.
