Grape seed oil is often used as a carrier oil in aromatherapy preparations and massage therapy. A carrier oil is an oil that is used to dilute essential oils so that they are safe for topical application. Using grape seed oil in aromatherapy hair preparations may help to promote hair growth. According to Janice Cox in her book, "Natural Beauty at Home," grape seed oil is often used as a hair conditioner and styling oil and is believed to enhance hair growth.
Step 1
Make your own deep conditioning hair growth treatment by combining 2 oz. of grape seed oil, 2 oz. of jojoba oil and three drops each of lavender and thyme essential oil. When combined with grape seed oil, these essential oils will help to condition your hair and promote healthy hair growth. Gently warm this mixture in the microwave until it's just warm to the touch. Apply to dry hair and leave in for 20 minutes. Wash out with shampoo and warm water.
Step 2
Wash your hair with a grape seed oil shampoo. You can purchase commercially prepared grape seed shampoos. However, if you already have grape seed oil on hand, you can just add a few drops to the shampoo you are currently using to obtain its benefits. This shampoo mixture will help to strengthen and moisturize your hair, keeping it healthy and strong. It will also prevent breakage and split ends, which will help your hair grow longer.
Step 3
Rub a few drops of grape seed oil between the palms of your hands. Smooth your palms over dry hair to give your hair a light leave-in conditioning treatment that will help to encourage hair growth, strengthen your hair and help to tame frizzies, smooth dry ends and fly-aways. According to Care Fair, using grape seed oil on your hair will also leave it looking shiny and healthy.
Step 4
Prepare a scalp massage oil by combining 2 tbsp. of grape seed oil with several drops of peppermint essential oil. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, peppermint oil may help to promote hair growth when used in scalp massage. Peppermint oil must be mixed with a carrier oil, like grape seed oil, in order to avoid possible skin irritation. Massage the peppermint-grape seed oil into your scalp in the morning and evening before you go to bed. Dip your fingertips into the oil mixture. Apply the oil to your scalp using your fingertips, with firm pressure and making small circular motions.
Step 5
Apply a small amount of grape seed oil to your hair before using heated styling appliances. Grape seed oil can help to protect your hair from heat damage, which may cause breakage and hair loss.
