According to Medical News Today, although wrinkling is a normal part of the aging process, there are a number of environmental factors and lifestyle choices which can effect how early or late in our lives the onset of wrinkles happens. Heavy drinking, smoking, habitual facial expressions and, especially, UV exposure can cause premature wrinkles. After years of these factors taking their toll on your skin, wrinkles can become deep. Luckily, treatments exist to combat your deep wrinkles.

Ineffective

Over-the-counter anti-aging creams are unlikely to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, does not regulate or test these products. Therefore, they are labeled as cosmetics rather than medicines. Cosmetics companies can claim a product's effectiveness without proving it. Also, the Mayo Clinic notes that using a moisturizer can prevent the skin from becoming overly dry, which can be a cause of wrinkles.

Injections

Notable treatments for your deep wrinkles are botox and soft tissue filler injections. The Mayo Clinic notes that botox injections are ideal for use on crow's feet, frown lines and forehead wrinkles. They reduce wrinkles by blocking chemical signals going to the muscles, paralyzing them and relaxing the skin in the wrinkled area. Soft tissue fillers can be used for nose-to-mouth wrinkles and work by injecting collagen into the wrinkle which plumps it out, smoothing the skin, notes Westside Aesthetics.

Wounding

Clinical wrinkle treatments like heated lasers, chemical peels and dermabrasion -- use of an abrasive wire brush -- focus on wounding the skin by removing the epidermal surface layers of the skin. In so doing, the body is shocked into creating new replacement skin via increased collagen production. Serving a dual purpose, the removal of the epidermis also reduces the superficial depth and appearance of the wrinkles.

Most Severe

For very advanced stages of wrinkling, you may want to consider face-lift surgery. This involves the removal of skin and tissue at the jaw line. The remaining skin and connective tissue is stretched back, tightening the muscles and skin to give them a more youthful look. As Westside Aesthetics notes, the results of this surgery last for 10 years or so. Further surgeries then become more difficult because of the presence of scar tissue.

Considerations

The positive results of botox and soft tissue filler injections only last for months rather than years. Botox can cause redness, swelling and bruising. In rare cases, it can cause vision and breathing problems. Wounding techniques can result in redness, bleeding and soreness. Finally, a pink complexion is known to last for months in the case of dermabrasion.

If you have deep wrinkles with you find bothersome or effect your self-esteem, consult your doctor for professional advice.
