The fat flush diet is generally used to detoxify your body of chemicals, pesticides and hormones found in foods while helping you achieve your weight loss goals and transition into a healthy lifestyle. However, not everyone should try the fat flush diet because it restricts you to very few calories in the first few phases, which can be problematic for people with health problems. Talk to your doctor before trying the fat flush diet to see if you are healthy enough.
Step 1
Limit your caloric intake to between 1,100 and 1,200 calories per day for 14 days. According to Ann Louise Gittleman, author of "Fat Flush for Life: The Year-Round Super Detox Plan to Boost Your Metabolism and Keep the Weight Off Permanently," calorie-reduction is the first phase of the fat flush plan, and it is designed to help get rid of water weight and reduce bloating. During the first phase, you must eliminate margarine, alcohol, oils, sugar grains, bread, cereal, starchy vegetables and dairy products from your diet.
Step 2
Raise your caloric intake to between 1,200 and 1,500 calories per day for phase two. Stay in phase two until you have achieved your particular weight loss goals.
Step 3
Maintain your ideal weight by eating approximately 1,500 or more calories per day. At this point, or phase three, reintroduce light dairy products and gluten-free grains to your regular diet. Gluten-free grains include quinoa, rice and buckwheat.
Step 4
Add 30 minutes of daily exercise to your diet. Cardiovascular exercises include jogging, cycling, running, swimming or rock climbing. Do light strength training twice per week, advises Gittleman.
Step 5
Get plenty of sleep each night. According to Gittleman, 8 hours of sleep per night is essential, especially during phase one and phase two of the fat flush.
Tips and Warnings
- Walk for exercise during the first two phases of the fat flush diet.
- This diet can be potentially dangerous for some people. It is imperative that you talk with your doctor, who may need to run specific tests before you can begin this diet.
