Garlic and onions are a wonderful source of allicin. Allicin is a mineral recognized as an effective antimicrobial responsible for these vegetable's ability to fight infection in the body. Regular consumption of allicin helps in the healing of urinary tract infections, fungal skin and toenail infections and upper respiratory infections. Allicin can be extracted and used in supplement pill form or powder for alternative treatment options other than ingestion of the vegetables themselves.
Step 1
Peel an onion and grind it into a paste. Measure the paste into sterile chemistry tubes in 100 g quantities.
Step 2
Add 1 liter ethanol to the paste. This will dissolve the onion, leaving an allicin and ethanol mixture. Ethanol can be found at fueling stations in pure form or at a chemistry supply shop.
Step 3
Filter the mixture using a funnel and filtering paper. This will separate impurities from the allicin and ethanol.
Step 4
Extract the alcoholic content from the mixture using an extractor, and sterilize the mixture using a sterilization filter.
Step 5
Store the prepared mixture in a refrigerator set at 4 degrees Celsius or 39.2 Fahrenheit. This will keep it fresh and suitable for study and examination.
