Washing your hair when you have a head full of braids can be difficult. Fortunately, there are a few ways to get your scalp and hair clean without actually getting it wet, fumbling with liquid shampoos or worrying about your braids slipping out or coming undone. You should wash your scalp and braids at least once a week to get rid of the dirt, sweat and oils that can make your hair look dull.

Spray, sprinkle or drop a little bit of dry shampoo on the scalp and roots and work in gently with your fingertips. Lift up your braids and apply a bit at the roots doing the same process.

Soak a cotton ball with witch hazel and lightly dab your scalp and the roots underneath the braids. As an alternative, empty a small amount of witch hazel into a plastic spray bottle and add a few drops of water and then spritz all over the scalp to soothe and cleanse the scalp.

Squeeze two or three drops of jojoba, olive or coconut oil into your palms and rub them together. Apply to the scalp and ends of the hair to provide moisture and sheen and then spray braids with an oil or shine mist.
