How to Remove Face Redness

Facial redness is a common symptom of a condition called rosacea. This is an inflammation of the cheeks, chin, forehead and nose accompanied by red splotches that vary in size. Redness can be worsened during periods of stress or because of improper diet. Although rosacea and facial redness have no cure, there are steps you can take to temporarily remove the redness.

Step 1

Calm yourself by taking a walk or doing some yoga or deep breathing. Stress causes increased redness in the face, so relaxation will remove the redness by lowering blood pressure.

Step 2

Eat a well balanced diet of fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, low-fat dairy and lean meats. Avoid spicy and fried foods. These foods increase blood pressure and swelling of the skin. Eliminating these foods and eating well will make redness in the face fade away.

Step 3

Apply cortisone cream to the face. This constricts the blood vessels, reducing swelling and redness.

Step 4

Apply a green-tinted concealer. Green is the opposite color of red and will effectively mask the redness for the day.

Step 5

Opt for laser treatment from your local skin-care clinic or dermatologist's office. Laser treatments cause the veins under your skin to constrict, thus eliminating redness.

Step 6

Avoid overstimulation of the skin such as with massage and exfoliation. This increases blood flow to the face and will worsen redness. Wash the face with a mild cleanser instead while avoiding cleansers that contain exfoliation ingredients such as crystals and ground walnut shells.

Tips and Warnings

  • Caffeine products help reduce redness; however, increasing caffeine consumption is not necessarily good for you. Look for creams or supplements that contain caffeine.
