Oatmeal is a common ingredient in facial masks because the oats can absorb oil on the skin. It also exfoliates the skin, provides moisture and eases irritation. Oatmeal is also beneficial because it is hypoallergenic and will not clog pores. Oatmeal masks can be made with a variety of other ingredients that can readily be found in the kitchen, making the masks affordable. An oatmeal mask can be applied with a paintbrush and left on for 10 to 15 minutes before being washed off.
