According to the American Cancer Society, there are three main types of ovarian tumors. Epithelial tumors begin in the cells that cover the outer surface of the ovary. Germ cell tumors begin in the cells producing the eggs. Stromal tumors begin in the cells that make the female hormones and hold the ovary together. According to Medline Plus, ovarian cancer causes more deaths than any other type of cancer in the female reproductive system and is the fifth most common cancer in women. The American Cancer Society says that women with ovarian cancer can present with bloating, pelvic pressure and difficulty eating.
Bloating
According to the American Cancer Society, bloating is one of the symptoms of ovarian cancer. It goes onto say that in ovarian cancer there is a build-up of fluid or a tumor. This causes the woman to feel bloated. The woman may feel as if there is swelling in the abdominal area.
Pelvic Pressure
According to the American Cancer Society, pelvic pressure can occur due to ovarian cancer. Woman may feel a pressure or heaviness in the pelvic area. There may also be a pain in the stomach or in the pelvic area. Due to the pressure or pain in the abdomen and pelvic area the woman may also have urination problems. She may need to urinate often. The woman may also feel sudden urges to go.
Difficulty Eating and Other Effects
According to the American Cancer Society, trouble in eating can happen as a result of ovarian cancer. It goes onto say that a woman with ovarian cancer may feel full quickly. According to Medline Plus, women with ovarian cancer may have additional symptoms. These include abnormal menstrual cycles. There may be digestive symptoms such as constipation, indigestion and increased formation and passing of gas. The woman may also report feeling nauseous. It may be followed by vomiting. Back pain that has no obvious reason and that worsens over time could be a symptom of ovarian cancer. The woman may also get vaginal bleeding that is not related to the menstrual periods. There may also be discomfort in the lower abdominal area. Weight loss or weight gain without any reason could also be seen. Medline Plus also says that excessive hair growth may be a symptom of ovarian cancer.
