Dry brittle hair can develop for a variety of reasons, including coloring, perming, bleaching, highlighting and straightening. While washing your hair with a moisturizing shampoo followed by a daily conditioner can be helpful, you may need even more moisture to keep your hair looking its best. A leave-in conditioner can help smooth your hair's cuticle and prevent frizz. Golden jojoba oil, also known as liquid wax, works well as a base for homemade natural leave-in conditioners, giving your hair a glass-like finish.

Step 1

Pour 2 oz. of golden jojoba oil into a measuring cup. Add 4 oz. of water to the golden jojoba oil.

Step 2

Mix the two ingredients using a metal whisk. Pour the mixture into an 8-oz. spray bottle.

Step 3

Add five to six drops of your favorite essential oil to the golden jojoba oil and water mixture. If you prefer a stronger scent, add more essential oil.

Step 4

Screw the top onto the spray bottle. Give the spray bottle a few shakes to disperse the essential oil.

Step 5

Apply the golden jojoba based natural leave-in conditioner to damp hair. A few spritzes are all that is necessary. Comb the leave-in conditioner through to your ends using a wide-toothed comb.

Tips and Warnings

  • Shake the spray bottle before each use. Store the conditioner in your refrigerator when not in use.
  • Avoid spraying a heavy amount of leave-in conditioner on your hair. Use sparingly--too much can make your hair look greasy.
