Even if you do not use a lot of hair products, the skin on your scalp will die and leave behind a layer of dead skin cells that can clog your hair follicles and cause dandruff. However, you can make exfoliating products for your scalp that remove the dandruff and restore smooth, healthy scalp skin. All you need to make your own at-home scalp exfoliators are your favorite natural oils, and mild natural exfoliators such as sugar, oatmeal or crushed almonds.
Brown Sugar Scalp Exfoliator
Step 1
Mix 2 tbsp. brown sugar with 1 tbsp. olive oil in a small bowl.
Step 2
Wet your hair and pat it dry.
Step 3
Apply the brown sugar scalp exfoliator to your entire scalp.
Step 4
Use circular motions to massage the treatment into your scalp.
Step 5
Rinse off with warm water, then wash your hair and style as usual.
Oatmeal Scalp Exfoliator
Step 1
Mix 3 tbsp. ground oatmeal with 1 tsp. olive oil in a small bowl.
Step 2
Apply the oatmeal scalp exfoliator to wet hair and scalp, and massage the treatment into your scalp with your fingertips.
Step 3
Rinse off with warm water, and shampoo and style as usual.
Baking Soda Scalp Scrub
Step 1
Mix 2 tbsp. baking soda with enough water to make a thick paste.
Step 2
Apply the paste to your scalp, and massage the treatment into your scalp with your fingertips.
Step 3
Rinse off with lukewarm water, shampoo as usual, and apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair, as baking soda usually dries out your hair after this treatment.
White Sugar and Jojoba Scrub
Step 1
Mix 2 tbsp. white sugar with 2 tbsp. jojoba oil.
Step 2
Add five to 10 drops of your favorite essential oil, such as chamomile, cedar wood, or rosemary essential oil to the mixture, and stir thoroughly.
Step 3
Massage white sugar and jojoba scrub into your entire scalp.
Step 4
Rinse off with lukewarm water, and shampoo and style as usual.
Molasses Sugar Scrub
Step 1
Mix 2 tbsp. molasses sugar, available from online food retailers and high-end grocery stores, with 2 tbsp. jojoba oil, sweet almond oil or olive oil.
Step 2
Apply molasses sugar scrub to hair and massage the exfoliating treatment into scalp.
Step 3
Rinse off with lukewarm water and shampoo as usual.
Crushed Almond Scalp Exfoliator
Step 1
Pour 1 cup of raw almonds into a blender or food processor, and pulverize until the almonds are crushed into tiny pieces.
Step 2
Mix the crushed almonds with 2 tbsp. olive oil and stir thoroughly.
Step 3
Apply the almond scalp exfoliator to scalp, and massage into scalp well.
