Essential oils can offer a variety of benefits when added to your facial routine. Geranium is ideal for all skin types and adds a lovely floral fragrance. Chamomile, lavender and lemon help with oily skin. Dry and aging skin will enjoy the addition of carrot or rose oils. If you suffer from blemishes, then using clary sage, peppermint or lavender oil can help treat and prevent future outbreaks. It only takes a few drops added to your favorite liquid cleansers, masks or lotions. Lavender can be even applied directly to your skin. If an allergic reaction or irritation occurs, stop using the oils and contact your physician.

Facial Sauna

Step 1

Place the essential oil of your choice into a bowl then add boiling water. Cover the bowl and your head for a makeshift facial sauna.

Step 2

Steam your face for about 10 minutes, do not get too close to the steam to prevent burning your skin.

Step 3

Remove the towel and use it to thoroughly dry your skin. Add the oil directly to your shower for a full body treatment.

Facial Mask

Step 1

Pour or squeeze mask into the palm of your hand.

Step 2

Shake a few drops, no more than three, onto the mask. Stir thoroughly with your fingers from your other hand, until it is fully mixed.

Step 3

Apply the mask and leave on as per the products directions. Rinse using warm water.

Creams and Lotions

Step 1

Remove the lid from your unscented and non-comedogenic lotion or cream.

Step 2

Add 10 drops essential oil to an eight ounce container. Stir with a butter knife until it is fully mixed.

Step 3

Replace the lid and give it a couple of good shakes, if possible. Use as you normally would.

Tips and Warnings

  • For best results, all natural homemade cleansing preperations are best, otherwise choose commercial products that have no harsh chemicals and are unscented.
  • Some people may be allergic to certain essential oils. Discontinue use and call your physician if you develop any reactions or irritations.
