Scratch-resistant coating does not make eyeglass lenses completely scratch-proof, but it does help protect lenses from everyday wear and tear, such as dropping your glasses on the floor or accidentally resting them on the lenses. Proper cleaning, storage and care help preserve the lens coating and prolong the life of your glasses.
Step 1
Wash your hands with warm water and mild hand soap to avoid transferring dirt and other grime to your glasses while cleaning them.
Step 2
Rinse your glasses lenses under running lukewarm water to remove large dirt and dust particles.
Step 3
Rub the lenses with a lens cloth or other non-abrasive microfiber cloth using a gentle circular motion across both sides of each lens.
Step 4
Spray the lenses with a cleaning solution made especially for lenses with anti-scratch coating and rub lenses with the same cloth to remove stubborn smudges if necessary. You can purchase lens cleaning solution at your optometrist or common drugstore.
Step 5
Clean the nose pads, hinges and frame arms with the lens cloth, using more spray if necessary.
Tips and Warnings
- When not in use, keep your glasses in a case to prevent dust and dirt from building up on the lenses.
- Never use paper towels, facial tissue, hand/face towels or the customary hem of your shirt to clean your lenses, as the abrasive fibers can potentially scratch your lenses. Never clean dry lenses since small dirt particles could cause scratches or smudges, even when using a soft lens cloth. Always rinse lenses with water or spray them with cleaning solution first. Never use window or other household cleaners as a cleaning solution.
