Testosterone levels can fluctuate in a woman based on several variables, including genetics, age and muscle mass. Although testosterone is a male hormone, women do need some of it in their system, just as men naturally have the female hormone, estrogen, present in their system. Testosterone tends to increase with age in women and many women -- particularly menopausal women -- can experience high testosterone levels in relation to their estrogen levels. This change in hormone levels can be unpleasant and upsetting for some women and while high testosterone levels can be difficult to combat, you can learn how to control them.

Step 1

Exercise periodically. Exercising can use up testosterone in the body and while this is only a temporary fix, it can help relieve some of the bodily changes and discomfort associated with these hormone levels. However, try to do cardiovascular exercises that are not geared toward building new muscle -- increasing muscle mass will increase the presence of testosterone in your body.

Step 2

Consume fewer sugars and refined carbs to control your blood sugar levels. According to VirginiaHopkinsTestKits.com, high blood sugar levels can stimulate the ovaries to produce more male hormones. By reducing blood sugar levels and insulin in the blood, testosterone tends to drop as well. You should also avoid artificial sweeteners, which stimulate insulin production.

Step 3

Eat soy products or take supplements of soy isoflavones -- plant hormones that operate similarly to estrogen in the body. While this does not lower the amount of testosterone in the body, it decreases the effects of testosterone on the body and makes you more comfortable.
